How to Improve Joint Strength and Service Life During joint Spindle tapes & Tangential Belt Jointing Machine Operations
1. Standardize Operating Procedures
Strictly adhere to the manufacturer's specifications for temperature, pressure, and heating time. For example:
Nylon spindle tape jointing temperature: 110°C–150°C (optimal: 120°C–130°C).
Heating time: 2–3 minutes.
Use a thermometer to calibrate the machine before operation to prevent:
Excessive temperatures (causing brittle fractures or premature aging).
Insufficient temperatures (leading to joint detachment).
2. Ensure Joint Quality
Trim the belt ends neatly with uniform bevel angles.
Roughen the surfaces and clean them thoroughly before applying adhesive.
Evenly coat the beveled surfaces with adhesive, avoiding excessive or insufficient application.
Press the joint manually for even distribution, then place it in the hot-melt jointing machine for pressure heating.
Ensure the joint edges are aligned; monitor for warping during heating.
3. Minimize Stress Concentration
Apply hammer peening or shot blasting to the welded toe area to:
Induce compressive stress on the surface.
Reduce sharp notches and stress concentration.
Enhance fatigue resistance of the joint.
4. Control Tensioning Force
Use a tensioning wheel adjustment method:
Calculate the required pretension based on design power and linear speed.
Set initial pretension to 1%–2%, then adjust to ~2% after 1 hour of operation.
Run the belt for 10 minutes, stop for 30 minutes, and then resume normal operation.
Avoid over-tightening or excessive slack to prevent premature wear.
5. Perform Regular Maintenance
Maintain stable temperature and humidity in the operating environment.
Prevent contamination of the belt; clean it periodically with soapy water or a mild detergent (avoid aromatic compounds).
Monitor belt alignment during operation; adjust promptly if misalignment is detected.
Repair localized delamination or damage immediately to prevent further deterioration.
